Labour have announced plans, or at least have said they will, to open up safe routes to the UK for approved asylum seekers; I guess that means that all those crossing in small boats can be returned to France or wherever. My only question is why has it taken so long to do what has been bloody obvious? On saving money the welfare bill is too high – it is ridiculous that people do not take jobs as they are better off on benefits. As ever there are the rightful claimants and those who are not – but what to do about the latter? Counselling and respect should be shown and employers offered incentives. I suspect the future welfare cost will spiral – presumably those on benefits are not paying into a back up pension?
Weather is cooler but I still maintain that we should be preparing for the future. An interesting comment by RJScaringe, founder of Rivian, a US Ev car maker backed by Amazon. He commented that car makers taking quick profits now (due to Trumps stupidity at stopping incentives for EV’s), would lead to them falling behind in the race for the technology needed over the next few years which will need $billions of investment. Already in the UK we are seeing significant market share taken by BYD and others. How many famous car names will disappear as a new dawn appears?
Water – this topic becomes relevant when supplies run low. Thams Water and most of the others are bankrupt. Why should householders pay for the interest on loans made to pay bonus’ and shareholders.. Just nationalise and make every house a share holder in a new nationalised company like the old co-op. Profits would be returned via bill reductions, This is not nuclear physics – just common sense. The same could apply to electric and gas companies – here there may need to be a more nuanced agreement – investments are greatly needed – but again not rocket science!
FIFA World Cup. You have to love the fact that Capo Verde have made it to the last 32. With a population the size of Bradford or Sheffield! Nations like Scotland have been vanquished (Their supporters made a bigger impact than their team!), and Uruguay – former winners and a population 7x larger (and I know pop. size is irrelevant (China and India) but footballing heritage may be changing)? Japan have looked brilliant and Cote d’Ivoire have a great side.
