COVID RAMBLINGS

I went back mentally to basics. Covid is a virus transmitted from person to person. If a person with Covid does not meet anyone else the virus cannot find another host. So that is simple. BUT people are gregarious, and need to be. Especially the young. Test and trace is a huge shambles.

USA ELECTION

There are many things I do not understand! The American electoral system is one of the major ones (along with anything science!). last time Clinton got 3 million more votes than Trump and lost. Ok similar things happen in the UK. But it is like their system is built to deceive. Created in the 18th and 19th centuries it resembles the ‘rotten boroughs’ of Georgian England.

CONFUSION RULES

New areas put under level 2. Not Bristol (143/100000), not Exeter (341), not Plymouth (64), but yes Chelmsford (63), yes Braintree (42), but not North Somerset (53). Can anyone explain the geography of this? Presumably Bristol and Exeter may be due to students. But Braintree and North Somerset are demographically fairy similar; NS probably has an older population.

COVID-19 7 October 2020

On 27 Sept I listed the stats for selected places. So they next page will have updates on some of these, and some new ones. Not pretty reading. But bullshit barney thumps the table and waves his arms around, and basically talks bullshit!

Covid-19

So the numbers of positive tests goes up by 50% in a day. Does this matter? Hospital admissions are steady. Will this give the “herd immunity” that we have heard lots about? Or is a start of a new wave?

Covid-19

Things the government got wrong. Basically everything! Too late to shut down, PPE debacle, care homes, masks, quarantine, test and trace, exams. And still it does not realise that bombast and bluster from No.10 means absolutely nothing on the streets of Manchester or Leeds.

What is needed is a devolution of restrictions and incentives to regional level authorities. The South-West could probably have relaxed most restrictions weeks earlier, Parts of the North should never have restricted anything yet.
