Northern Ireland

I know I have no right to comment on this by religious or geographical or basically any other reason. However that just puts me in the same position as the present government of incompetents. Watching Israel/Palestine with horror (I could not find a suitable adjective to add), I wonder how far we are away from a similar situation in Ulster?

Green Party

I feel like a teenager (actually I wish), but I am going to deliver Green Party leaflets in my local area – whilst Istill having yearning for a Labour Party! What I would really like is an election system which allowed people to be represented fairly. Like Scotland – their system. seems fair? And then the greens and labours would have to come to a consensus. So much better than tories and Lib Dems deciding who to shaft next.

VACCINES

Bad news. Vaccine supplies to poorer countries and the COVAX scheme are being cut as the worlds biggest supplier in India says it will not be exporting any doses of the AstraZenica vaccine until the end of the year. With possibly millions dying in Africa we should not criticise them too much.

GREAT BRITSH RAILWAYS

If only the government could be believed? They have already refused to reward a popular and profitable, nationalised East Coast Line. Now we have a rebranding, but is their any real subsidence to their plans?

Cooking – pizza bread

Experiment time! I have just made bread dough , let it rise overnight, and have added grated cheese, chopped and sweated red onion, a chopped garlic, quite a lot of pepper, and a good handful of greek basil. I will let it rise for and hour, then cook on the pizza stone as a sort of flattish roll. I reckon 12-15 minutes at 189C on the hot pizza stone.

GEOGRAPHY OF POLITICS

Interesting article in todays paper by John Harris. It suggests that clustering is taking place in previously fairly uniform voting areas. Cambridgeshire, Surrey and West Sussex have moved to the left (possibly due to migrants from London). Greens win in East Sussex, Gloucestershire and Kent. Whilst areas in the north have moved to the right. Or is the terminology of left and right out dated. Are people making economic decisions based on their situations, education and beliefs. Just as religion is virtually nonexistent in my world, so the discussions about veganpsm, organic food, poverty and food banks, the wealth gap and the obscenely rich have grown.

COVID 17 May

Well pleased. Rate in North Somerset down to 8.8 per 100000. Only Weston Winterstoke has 3 cases, every where else is 2 or below for the total of 16. I really hope the relaxation of rules does not result in cases going up.

RHS BRIDGEWATER

A new 154 acre garden is opening in Salford. Admission £12.10 or £7.70 if you arrive by bike or on foot. Locals free on Tuesdays and GP’s can prescribe visits instead of anti-depressants. Costing £35 million the site will hopefully generate £13 million for the local economy. The site is a former scrap yard, derelict area. I think this could be replicated in many area. It is sort of a more practical Eden Project?

RECIPES – LAMB

Well not exactly recipes!

Diced lamb marinating with white wine vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice and mint, to be served in a wrap or pitta bread with chopped tomatoes and red onion and lettuce or such like.
