COVID – WORLD PERSPECTIVE

Interesting radio programme on this topic. Asia countries have done much better than Europe. They acted faster than we did and seem more efficient – thus have not had to lockdown late and hard! South America has in general been abysmal!. Brazil’s President is a danger to his country and the world!

VACCINE PASSPORTS

Interesting that trial venues are receiving abuse for suggesting that they may require vaccine proof. Personally I would not go to a pub, cinema or inside venue which did not require one. For local events I think registration is enough – as I have stated previously. People are happy to sign up for loyalty cards and Amazon Prime, etc. If rates of infection remain at current levels around here a membership card for a pub would be more than ample. If there was an outbreak they would know who to contact. Visitors should have to sign in with ID proof (not vaccine proof).

PIZZA

New pizza stone to try out. Having read Felicity Cloakes ‘Completely Perfect’ I am happy with what I do. OO, water, yeast and salt with a dash of olive oil and some thyme.

Topping – something different – a rage bought sauce for a change with cheeses, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and possibly roasted peppers and some garlic then sprinkled with parsley, greek basil and ground pepper, olives. I know that is probably too much taste, but why not. It was ok, but I think I will cook the baser a couple of minutes before adding the top (as my tops are always tomato heavy.

GREENHOUSE

I love changing plans, Di has just given me a couple of toms and a cucumber, and change of plan I have ordered a sweet chilli plant which I am going to put into a pot usually having toms and see if I can get it to be big and productive.

Most seeds are germinating nicely – so thinking about pots for the patio. I am not sure if lemon verbena survived, so might have to replace. Wow, cold again, I have watered the greenhouse this morning but not planting latest tomato plants until Wednesday when it should be a little warmer.

SALAD DAY

OKit is cold outside and we might even get snow on Monday – although I doubt it. But I am making some spicy chick peas – no recipe followed as such, although I looked at lots.

SMOKED SALMON PATE

Sort of followed the recipe – 150 g smoked salmon, 200g cream cheese, tbsp creme fresh, 1/2 lemon, pepper. I added an avocado, and smoked paprika and a little mustard and some parsley. Nice.

WISDOM

I am not a historian so I am not sure that the next statement is correct. Times of crisis are often followed by social reform.

However if true the government will need to look out. Flag waving jingoism might appeal to the idiot and the sycophants in Number 10. But when this crisis is ebbing away, people might start to look at the distribution of income and job security. The latter is perhaps the most concerning. Zero hour contracts, short-term contracts and part-time work might be the American way but British Society is not as transient or malleable.

TOMATOES

4 planted this morning; a plum, a fat one, a cherry and an ordinary one. Hopefully Di will let me have 4 more like last year – if not I will see if I~ can get a yellow one. Most of my other seeds are. coming up so it will be time to give some away, repot some and harden some up too go into the garden.
