Then I was also thinking about the dichotomy between shopping and delivery. Delivery is much more efficient. I would guess that a delivery lorry from a supermarket is delivering to about 10 houses. That is 10 journeys round here that would be 15-20 miles, or a trip from here to Bolton. So whilst I am distrustful of the Amazon model, I think it might actually be reasonably environmental, especially when their delivery vans are environmentally powered. I also hope to see some UK competitors to Amazon develop in scope.
