WILDLIFE – ESPECIALLY INSECTS
There appears to be a massive decline in our insects which will have a catastrophic impact on life on Earth. Are we being too tidy?
Whilst I understand the impact of agribusiness on the countryside I cannot believe that that alone is responsible. In particular I have noticed fewer flies and wasps around my house in the last couple of years. It made me think about the food recycling boxes we now have, with the contents then being incinerated or whatever. In the past they would have gone in a dustbin, and even if in plastic bags these often split, and were then dumped in landfill.
Now with great efficiency disposal is insect free. I do not want to attract rats, so what to do? Entomologists please advise.
I remember Chris Baines stating that the attraction of the Severn Estuary to wading birds was the invertebrates which lived on the sewage deposited by rivers from both animals and humans!
STONEHENGE
Many a true word said in jest! For many years I took sixth form students to Pembroke and part of the weeks entertainment was a river study on the Preseli Mts. where the bluestones for Stonehenge come from. I regularly joked that Stonehenge was originally sited there and the English whilst on holiday rather took a fancy to it and nicked it! Apparently this is now an accepted theory (well the bit about it being originally constructed there.!! Guardian article
MY CAR
Well after 2 and a half months we think we have finally sorted it. I say we, as I paid whilst others did the work! It has been very expensive for something that cost £30 to correct the initial problem. Hopefully that is it for a while – with lockdown I use it so little – I have put petrol in it about 4 or 5 times in the last year! It has cost a lot, but I think it could have been worse with normal charges – I did have to listen to Tory claptrap though!

The Guardian’s David Pegg tells Anushka Asthana about a paper trail that shows how more than 1,000 laws have been vetted by the Queen or Prince Charles through a secretive procedure before they were approved by parliament. These laws include everything from social security, pensions, race relations and food policy through to obscure rules on car parking charges and hovercraft. But they also include draft laws that affected the Queen’s personal property such as her private estates in Balmoral and Sandringham – and anything involving the nature of her wealth, estimated to run into the hundreds of millions of pounds.
The Queen is likely to be able to make hundreds of £millions from licences for offshore wind. The Crown estate benefits but the treasury then decides how much to take!
