ELECTION 2024

So it is all over! What have we learnt?

Humiliation for the Conservatives but not a total evisceration – but only just! Big names went down – Truss, Sleaze-Dogg, Mordaunt, Guillis, Mercer, Keegan, Shapps, Chalk. etc.. Sunak and Hunt held on with reduced majorities. Sunak resigned as leader and we wait and see if fhere is a swing to the right?

Greens and Reform both won 4 seats but the former still gets no mention whilst the c*nt Farage milks the press. Reform vote comes are very much of a protest single issue vote (racism!). We have to accept that 10-15% of the population are racist! No doubt the money will pour in for Farage and he will be on TV and in The Mail and Telegarph and Express incessantly. The Greens will continue to build from local strongholds just as they did in Bristol and Brighton. With 4 MP’s they have an opportunity to be heard – specially on climate and environmental aspects. If Starmer really wants to ring changes he could co-opt a Green as a junior minister for Climate, environment or water quality? I guess that this would be unpopular with the 412 elected Labour MP’s?

The Lib.Dems have an opportunity to be an effective opposition – it may take time for the Tories to form a co-herent one as they have been split asunder! I think I saw that there will be a new speaker – they will need to be strong to put Farage and Anderson in their place constitutionally – something they have no intention of doing! Maybe they should all be elected to the most boring committees? The LD’s are effectively with the greens to the left of Labour.

There are also the independants elected on the Gaza ticket! along with the disaffected Labour members headed by Corbyn. It is worth noting that Corbyn got more votes than Starmer’s Labour, but did not have the ruthless organisation that Starmer has developed.

Scotland has seen the SNP (just 9 seats down from 47!) decimated and the Tories have just 5 seats. I think this may be due to the ruling fatigue and the arrests in its leadership! Rather than a desire to promote the Union? Wales went Tory free(down 12) and Plaid Cwmru doubled to 4 whilst Labour went up 9 despite holding power in the Seined for years!

Northern Ireland is usually ignored in general elections as it has fewer seats – but here there were only minor changes(I think?). The DUP lost 2 seats but they remained in the fold (I think)! Sein Fein remained at 7 who will not be sworn in as MP’s.

EXCITED!

It is like waiting for a date with a prom queen or even the results of a job interview (I was never excited about exm results as they were bound to be disappointing!).

Potential Portillo moment timetable: 3:00am – Jenrick 3:30am – Keegan 3:30am – Hunt 3:30am – Shapps 3:30am – Coffey 3:30am – McVey 4:00am – Sunak 4:00am – Stride 4:00am – Cleverly 4:30am – Rees Mogg 5:00am – Gullis 5:15am – Mercer 5:30am – Truss 6:00am – Philp

Then there will be a look at the morning newspapers! The Sun has already changed sides, the Times will follow as Murdoch has obviously changed allegence for financial benefits. The Express will claim success if Reform get a seat, the Mail – who fucking knows what lies they will come up with? The Star headline might be funny! I might redo my hair if the result is beyond embarrassing for the bastards! I might be late for my voluntary job tomorrow, but I will enjoy watching the body language as the twats buy their toxic crap!

ANILHATION OR HUMILLIATION

Please make this the only options! The corruption and stench they leave behind warrant no sympathy. It seems thatbthe Reform party might get 2 seats with Anderson and Farage – but then can they be consigned to the recesses of media coverage? The Greens may get 2 seats as well – will the media offer them equal opportunities for coverage?

A new Labour government will have many expectations thrust upon them, Health, Education, housing, water, defence, justice, prisons, social care. I fact the list is so endless I wonder whether all of Whitehall has been on a 1 day week for years? Everything is just so fucked up!

Many of us would love to rejoin the EU, but we are also aware that it is not practical as a short term objective. One could also argue whether we would wish to belong to an increasingly right wing organisation! Trade deals need to be sorted asap though.

Lets us just enjoy one of the above headlines!

HURRICANE

Beryl is the earliest Category 5. They are usually mid-season (August-September). This one has trashed parts of Venezuela, Grenada and St.Vincent and the Grenadines. It is now heading close to Jamaica and then the Cayman Islands. My good friend and ex-student is living there and has said he will send photo’s which I will post here.

Pink Floyd Atom Heart Mother to quiten me down and then maybe St.Tropez for a bit of sunshine! “Look what they did to my song ma” by Melanie Saska, Morcheeba “Rome wasn’t built in a day’ for realism. I might even throw in “The laughing policeman” if I am getting hysterical. I appreciate any recommendations.

14 YEARS

They have had an absolute majority and have diddly squat to show for it other than a broken Britain. Their last days of campaigning are damage limitation and more lies. Starmer says he will try to be a good father and husband by taking Friday nights off. I guess too many Tory ministers had to spend 24/7 with their fingers in the dyke (or till!) and were rushing to hush up their latest incompetence. Some stupid tory minister even said he was going to do a 4 day week – their lies are pathetic, get rid of them by voting them out on Thursday.

The papers on Thursday morning could be interesting? What lies will they lead with? I cannot think of any positive headlines; they will be slagging off Labour. I might be tempted to watch GBTV if there is a chance to watch tears and humiliation (Being a nice person stopps with tories and Reform!).

SUPERMAJORITY

WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! Any majority of more than 10 is basically giving a party a mandate for anything! The tories had a mjority of over 60 and still managed to fuck everything up. Are the tories calling for PR already – maybe in 5 years time?

What was missing from the last 5 years in particular was an abject failure by the 5th estate to hold Johnson/Truss/Sunak to account. With an absolute majority and a compliant press there has been nothing to reign in the oddball measures promoted like ‘the Brexit Plan’ and the Rwanda scheme (all £320million spaffed against the wall!).

We can e certain that the press will be more forensic with Starmer – although maybe they have lost the art of journalism and will resort to the usual aspertions and lies?

FOOTBALL FIRST

Then other stuff! So England have ground their way through – nothing particularly wrong with that! However if yhoping for pizzazz and panache, tink again. Bellingham scored a saver in the last minute to take it into extra time, and there are approximately 5 million fans who will say where Southgate has got it wrong! For those old enough, England did not get off to a great start in 1966! But I guess the demand for greater entertainment is higher now? Spain looked to be what England fans wanted to see – attacking football with excitement provided by a schoolboy on one wing and a 21 year old on the other. 31 shots on goal and 4 scored. OK against a low ranked team – but still done!

Italy out and Germany looking good, France with huge potential. Personally I would not write off the Alpine countries yet. Switzerland are well organised as are Austria. The Euro’s have thrown up surprises in the past!

I will admit to tearing up listening to Glastonbury Coldplay – Fix you! I thought I would mention other places I have cried! Brussels Cathedral – I walked in all agnostic and historian – then the choir started and I sat outside sobbing! I think that is it for places!
