CLIMATE EMERGENCY

Amazing – there are still ignorant toe rags who believe that global warming is not causing a risk to life on earth – and we need to be aware of the impact on the natural environment too. I would call on Ed,Milliband to present a weekly TV show on all channels licenced to air on UK TV. He could use the room fitted out for Boris to make Covid announcements. I am sure he could fill 10 minutes a week with data about renewable energy production and innovations, CO2 levels, etc. all with the flags draped behind. Do we have to wait for wildfires in the UK to cause death and destruction before we take action. And why is there not an outcry about the decline in insects, and thus other species, I am old enough to remember a front grill on a car after a medium drive being festooned with dead insects – no longer, how many insects do you see around a nicely mowed lawn? I am proud of my wilderness! Despite the neighbours – who have absolutely made no comments, for or against, apart from cutting their lawns and spraying to stop wild flowers from germinating. Any way

neighbours – I am 73 and live alone, only one neighbour asked how I was keeping – about 10 months ago! So neighbours who asked me to water their plants whilst on holiday can FO. I might be a little unconventional but I am not unfriendly and I think generous – I have given produce in the past but have received nothing in response. I guess that is the impact of living in a tory heartland – Guardian readers 1 or 2, Mirror readers = 1, Rural Britain !

WILDFIRES

Spain is suffering from the worst wildfires for years – Andalusia may have 11-20 dead. Te extreme heat is causing problems across Europe. Not due to Moroccan disquiet about the World Cup, which caused minor disturbances in cities in France and Holland, and on the Edgware Road in London (hardly riots all over Europe!), bro’! I suspect an English loss or even victory against Norway would result in more arrests (if a defeat then domestic violence will spiral), but be under reported in the crap media. The climate crisis reveals itself occasionally, and is rarely taken notice of. Heat kills, but too many people enjoy it for it to be seen as a problem, morons declare that they love the Mediterranean weather, but ignore the consequences. This is Gaia providing a warning of what is to come if we do not take action – like NOW! Systems in nature are slow to react, and a rise in sea level and ocean temperatures will not have an easy fix.

WARMING UP

Temp at 09.30 is 28C – should top out at 32C this afternoon. I woke up at 0415 and decided to get up and do things early, so all plants watered and greenhouse, drink for later made (mints, ginger, lemon and honey). Pillow cases in wash with t-shirts, etc., Football watched on catch up (France look very good). papers sorted at shop, and paper read – all before 0730! Fan is on – thank goodness for the solar panels!

News is depressing as usual – Iran -Israel/USA continues, oil prices hike again, more accusations of Israeli execution of an aid worker, and also of children. At least Andy Burnham admits that Labour got it wrong on Gaza – we will see if he puts substance to words. farage is now being investigated for further dodgy contributions and money laundering – it seems highly probable that should he win the byelection he will be suspended and another byelection called – this time with all the major parties. Even posh dicks like him, Tice and Jenprick have to obey the law.

My garden is seen by some as a weed invested mess – but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is certainly wild in areas, but I have planted things to diversify, and allowed intruders like evening primrose and chicory to flourish – fennel is self seeding and had been seen growing in the roadside gutter 5 house fronts away, along with pals, the last 2 mentioned. I have planted a few roses (red, white, yellow, purple, orange, pink) and a few herbs. I might make a video and post it of a suburban wilderness.

FARAGE

So he has resigned as an MP – will anyone notice? His video appeal – designed to avoid awkward questions regarding money laundering, said that the byelection would be a chance to stick 2 fingers up to the establishment; a desperate measure designed to appeal to knuckle draggers and those whose personal education prevents them from achieving a satisfactory income – yet these people are stupid enough to ignore his many homes and £5 million plus ‘gifts’. His main opposition maybe Count Binface! the pseudonym for a comedian named Jonathan Harvey, With none of the main parties offering a candidate his humiliation could be epic? Fingers crossed. A Clacton businessman on a radio phone in says he regularly sees Farage in and around the town – he must be hallucinating as Farage is mostly in America and does not have a normal MP’s surgery – ever! he got 21225 votes last time – anything less would be catastrophic for him. He will need to manufacture a racial drama involving a migrant, to jack up his support,

Trump was ridiculed in the Belgian press and in the instagram account of the PM’s cat – Maximus. Trump himself was announcing that the ceasefire was off again – its on and off more than a Belisha beacon! Like Farage he is just a fucking embarrassment. His latest diatribe consisted of more threats to Greenland (which is surrounded by Chinese and Russian boats!), and saying that Europe must be careful with immigration and energy or it would not be Europe anymore! I accept a degree of logic regarding immigration, but energy? Is he squeling like the orange pig he is because oil companies and the American control over the MiddleEast oil producers may be collapsing. Without the petroleum dollar American influence is much diminished.

Heat wave here – fans on, greenhouse and all plants watered, tomatoes still not ripe, mulberries soon, raspberries second crop getting ready, herbs growing brilliantly, roses good, and hanging baskets good.

IMMIGRATION

Labour have announced plans, or at least have said they will, to open up safe routes to the UK for approved asylum seekers; I guess that means that all those crossing in small boats can be returned to France or wherever. My only question is why has it taken so long to do what has been bloody obvious? On saving money the welfare bill is too high – it is ridiculous that people do not take jobs as they are better off on benefits. As ever there are the rightful claimants and those who are not – but what to do about the latter? Counselling and respect should be shown and employers offered incentives. I suspect the future welfare cost will spiral – presumably those on benefits are not paying into a back up pension?

GAIA IS NOT AMUSED

The Greek goddess who personifies Mother Earth is pouring scorn on Trump; firstly the pond in Washington which he blamed on saboteurs (if the Crown Jewels were nicked I guess he would blame the school parties!) and now the awful earthquake in Venezuela.

And Europe ignore the warning signs of Gaia at your/our peril. The present heat wave is waning in the UK, but it will not be the last this year. Britain’s and indeed Europes infrastructure was built for a different climate. So the first act of Andy Burnham as PM should be to create a Department of climate emergency and borrow the billions to fund the necessary improvements to infrastructure and buildings, including private ones. Bonds could be issued to pay for it – we always find money for weapons, why not to fund public safety and resilience? Strict rules will need to be in place to prevent the cronyism of the covid debacle. He could even do something about that by at least banning certain individuals from Parliament. “A stitch in time saves nine” is a maxim that the public will understand. Newly nationalised water companies could be given leading roles. Whilst on the issue – all council nd government contracts need to be verified to prevent over-charging – I know of people wanting to invest in care homes due to the massive profit margins, and perhaps a cap on government council salaries; the same gos for education – how can a headteacher justify a salary in excess of £150000 – sma hours, same responsibilities as others earning half that. And I am not against capitalism per se, just the jungle that has been created. I have not ranted against Farage & Co yet – I wish they would just fuck off some tropical island and then Gaia could create a tsunami!

World Cup is troubling – the nights are sweaty enough, and sleep disturbed, without having to wake up and work out who played in the hours of European darkness. Hydration breaks in an air conditioned stadium for the benefit of advertisers and TV channels – it disrupts the flow of games and is not necessary if the games are played at sensible times – America – keep your hands off our football (ours forever! the publics game).
