Did Johnson arrange for DoE’s demise to divert attention from the Brexit debacle that is descending into horror. The Northern Ireland Secretary did not get there until Thursday. This is not going to disappear anytime soon.

Well that was a shock this morning! Doing the papers we were chatting about the rise in Covid round here. I had noticed someone going into the shop without a mask. As he came out in my discussion I said that the rise might be due to people not wearing masks and becoming more relaxed about the restrictions. Next I knew I was being threatened by this guy who said he was exempt (no problem then?) and should knock my fucking head off for making a sarky remark.

So I went to a supermarket for the first time for over a year (ignoring 2 click and collect). Not too busy, everyone wearing a mask and old like me! Social distancing good. So maybe in another couple of months! I stocked up on odd things like razors, sardines (why are they so expensive in the local shop?), shampoo, and rather a lot of other stuff! I was surprised to see a queue at the fish counter – I know it is Friday, but did not know anyone cared about that anymore!

I did not watch the prat show on TV last night. Whilst I think she is rather pretty and he seems ok, it is odd that a 2nd or 3rd rate American actress and upper class nob can be so interesting to at least 2 nations! Nottinghill Part 2.

It is interesting that a bunch of obscure people known as the firm, or institution, can hold such sway over a technologically savvy country in the 21st century! All this would be totally irrelevant were it not for the race issue. Yet again we are seeing how racism and sexism are still undermining much of `British Society. Whilst the press seem to be able to write forever on this topic I have not much else to say. Whether they stay in USA or not, whether the heir apparent talks to them on the phone is basically irrelevant and boring!.

OK, this is a bit random! But cutting up an orange yesterday I wondered why children and adults playing football always had a quarter of orange at half-time. Whilst certainly good for you I could not see a quarter of an orange doing much to enhance performance! The internet suggested that colds were more prevalent in winter, but I think the clue is more to do with the date of introduction – 1950’s – post-rationing? Even then it still seems a little strange? Why not a piece of chocolate or piece of a banana?

It would be a big surprise as I very rarely participate. But if I did I would buy a farm and rent out most of the fields leaving an old barn or three! Convert these into. craft workshops, have a small cafe like the one in Wells selling whole food stuff (I have not got anything against meat – and would have to pop to the garage at Middle Taphouse for the occasional pasty!). A field or two with orchards, and a kitchen garden and a flower/wildflower meadow. A couple of ponds and maybe a classroom attached to the cafe (multi-use) for about 20. A shop would sell from the craft workshop and maybe others nearby.

Wow, that was quick. I was 20 minutes early, straight in, name, confirm address, have you had, covid, any other vaccination, any allergy, any medication – which arm? Done. 2 minutes max. It took me longer to park!

I had the fizzy one – ok, Pfizer. Now wait 12 weeks for next one.

Playing with statistics. 18% of population are 16 and under, and not being vaccinated. UK has a population of 68 million. So about 55 million eligible for vaccination. 15 million done.

So 40 million and about 250.000 given per day. so to do everyone would take 160 days, but we are likely to see at least 25% plus not take it up – so 120 days max. for everyone who wants it. I suspect therefore that anyone who really wants it will be done by end of April at the latest.

Then what to do about the rest? Vaccine passports. We know that the government is waiting for Nicola Sturgeon to decide what she will do, before deciding. Israel are thinking of issuing Vaccination Passports that will be needed to enter many public places like pubs, etc. I can understand a reluctance to do this regarding the civil right to not have the vaccine. However there is the “Hot Fuzz” thing of ‘for the greater good’. Personally I would issue the passports, but then leave it up to publicans and restauranteurs and others to decide whether to enforce. A night club could ignore it, and those who wish to go there could decide whether to attend or not?

It becomes more complicated with places like universities and colleges. With the great Williamson in charge it will be a fiasco, he has spent time appointing someone to ensure free speech in universities – surely he has something better to do. However laudible, it would surely keep for a while, or at least until they go back to running normally.
