COVID – JUNE 13

So what can we deduce logically? Experts are expecting more cases for the NHS in hospital, but recovery made. However others who need treatment may lose out if the disease is allowed to continue to spread. At about 3 1/2 million jabs a week the adult population should be fairly well covered. It would seem that the vaccine is not halting the spread of delta variant.

So it would seem 3 courses of action – one open up everything and deal with the resulting surge in cases. Continue lockdown restrictions for whatever time it takes (no rash promises). Or 3rd – is there a speedier and more effective way of track and test (which has to be one of the greatest flops in history, yet Dildo is up for promotion!. I think I may have suggested this about 6 months ago. Strict registration of customers of pubs, restaurants, cinemas and thesatres, etc. Include sporting events and festivals. Ensure maximum adherence to social distancing, etc. In private homes reduce the rules to advice – with potential to require compliance if, and only if the virus reaches a stated level. Businesses could open to patrons, but these people may need to be realistic about the potential costs of isolating.

Foreign travel is an essential industry according to many! But there several options – hotels rented exclusively for those from ‘green list’ countries, or with vaccine passports. In these they would be able to do all the normal activities, disco’s etc. I suspect travel firms block book anyway, so why not. The government could waive travel restrictions in these certified circumstances.

I feel sorry for publicans who were suffering from reduced trade before Covid. But pubs seem to be the ideal situation for the virus to spread. So opening hours restricted late at night, but maybe extended in day time? But maybe a case for reducing business rates, and subsidising alternative use of the space to promote community activities?

Schools – well with the fuc*wits in charge it is futile to suggest anything sensible. But schools need better aeration – it is not difficult to open a window – if they are there to be opened? I have taught in classrooms that were unbearably hot in summer, and laggy and disease ridden in winter. But maybe this will need a major investment – Johnson and co are great at handing out the readies – so if any mates of government ministers happen to come across this post (as likely as the moon actually being made of cheese!) could they put in a bid to actually make schools more healthy.

I also think needs a national campaign to travel less, and if we do, go by public transport. Idiot pants flew to Newquay when then there was a perfectly adequate train (he could probably have asked Lilbut for the loan of hers).
