ENERGY

However the real challenge is to come up with a plan to roll out sustainable and local energy production across the continent. I think the figure for houses with lofts but no insulation is 20% – that would be can east start. Then on shore wind turbines – they do not all need to be 100m high and eyesores. Obviously not putting them in National Parks would be sensible, bu why not by motorways – the eyesore is there already, and there is less wind friction.

Greater research into battery provision must be possible – possibly in schemes similar in concept to Dinorwig Power Station in North Wales. Mine shafts could possibly be adapted. There is also a need for thinking small – how many old water mills could produce electricity? With the cost of oil and gas rising it must be profitable to invest in small scale schemes that are sustainable.

Then there are other concerns that may not have arisen yet. Wheat supplies has been mooted, but there must be many other areas that the government should now be being proactive in investigating, predicting and making plans to ameliorate. Brexit has already been detrimental to our economy so ways of improving relations with the EU and thus reducing transporting produce from Australia, New Zealand and Asia would be sensible, more sustainable, and less environmentally damaging.

Bank profits are soaring – presumably on charges to British Industry – perhaps the government should investigate and legislate. They are unlikely to do this as they cream off taxes.
