SLEAZE – House of Lords

What really annoys me is that Brian Cox and David Attenborough and other vastly intelligent and knowledgeable people are excluded whilst Ian Botham and Johnsons brother are actually allowed to sit in the chamber.

My suggestion would be a smallish (20-30) group of ex-MP’s and civil servants to be permanent members to scrutinise the detail of new legislation. Then have COBRA like committees to sit with some of the permanent members and selected experts from a range of backgrounds. Their advice on issues could be sent back to the House of Commons (another name change needed).

The Palace of Westminster could be turned into a museum or art gallery or whatever. A new purpose built building could be established for the MP’s to use, whilst the new chamber would be in a separate building for permanent members, whilst the committee chambers could be housed around the country where relevant, As its findings would only be advisory there would be less political gain to pack it with gormless idiots who vote how and when told. Televised debates would be informative and increase the knowledge of the electorate. Running costs would be slashed as the number of permanent members was cut by 95%. However proper expenses should be paid to those called to Cobra like committees, which incidentally would be circular in design to avoid partisanship.
