HIGH STREET

The decline in the High Street in the UK is not due to ‘Turkish Barber Shops’ as the racist worm Farage has said. It is economics that has done for the main attractions of the High Street. The decline set in with Woolworths and has continued. Why go to the High Street when driving and parking is difficult and expensive? Far easier to use Amazon or online shops. Cheaper and a wider range and returnable. Wiser brains than mine have failed to find an answer. I have not been in a town centre for at least 5 years! The last time in W-s-M was of smelling grass, seeing beggars, a plethora of betting shops, charity shops, phone shops -even M&S has disappeared. However the town centre retains its geographical advantage of being centra! I would suggest that this is essential for the young, especially non-drivers. But what attraction is there for them? Like many pubs, the economic reality has moved on. Every village and area no longer has a blacksmiths or public house without a restaurant! Times have moved on but the increased isolation of individuals of all ages needs adressing. The pub and the high street were only a small niche part of this, but like sports clubs (increasingly monetised) and the decline of youth clubs this is an precipitous incline to social disocence. Murder rates are the lowest ever recorded but still the papers and media espouse panic and fear. Britain has a population of about 70 million – how many murders per year? Be shocked! And yet the press publishes crap from Trump that London is a dangerous city! The world is a dangerous place with him alive!
