We hear that there is a long wait not just for the NHS but to go to court. Could this be reduced by imposing mandatory fines on certain offences like shop lifting Most shops have cctv evidence so disputed fines should be minimal. And as with speeding offences there could be a points system so repeat offenders are treated more harshly. Police involvement could be limited to detailing the particulars of the offence , carried out by community police officers – baliffs could enforce payment. I am sure there would be caveats and problems but anything to simplify the system? We all pay higher prices due to shoplifting.
Rents – whilst at university back in the 1970’s my rent was fixed by a tribunal; this seems fair and should be reintroduced immediately. Properties with damp and problems would be penalised and eviction orders only used sensibly rather than greedily! So much that was ‘just’ seems to have been subverted by welfare and greed.
