Allegra Stratton suggests freezing left over bread and not rinsing plates before placing in the dishwasher to save the planet. All the governments so called green initiatives have been delayed or scrapped. The Queen gets a £250million new boat, government departments spend tens of thousands on Union Jacks, the idiot refurbishes his flat with ridiculously expensive wall paper, £2.5 million on a new press room in Downing Street, etc.
Unfortunately the government is more concerned with popularity than definite action. The call to the public must be made and explained loud and clear. The public responded magnificently to lockdown until the government showed that they did not really care.
Of course it is going to be financially painful – no we do not need all other countries to join in. basically the government needs to say ‘fuck it – we are doing this alone if necessary’. We would become world leaders in green technology and probably end up making our economy the envy of the world to be copied. Countries that do not tow the line would be faced with a trade embargo. the international aid budget should be reinstated to support poorer countries make the necessary transitions.
Then the opposition – where is it? Starmer is more concerned with expunging Corbynites (despite the popularity of his policies. I believe Corbyn lost not due to his policies, but the relentless press pressure on him and the so called Jewish issue (which I still do not understand – surely Isreal needs condemnation for its attitudes to Palestinians), and also his lack of charisma at the ballot box. I do not remember him ever being accused of being a liar. I believe he made some wrong decisions on fairly minor issues, but he had attributes that seem to be lost from politics today like honesty and beliefs. Were are the Lib Dems? they won a by-election and have not been heard from since. The greens should be hitting the headlines with climate change policies, but not a whisper. Stop pussy footing around and treble checking every press release for pc. Lets see some big posters with minimally covered male and female figures under the headline – “The Bare Facts’ and such ;like – I do not care if a few people are offended. take a picture of me and other old people and caption it – “We will all be dead before the shit hits the fan from the mess we have created”. That would get them talking. “Amazon – pay full taxes or fuck off – we have competitors that will fill your boots”.
