An announcement is expected soon on a major investment in infrastructure push by the EU. Seen as a challenge to China’s belt and road initiative it will be seen as an important counter balance.

Numbers in the UK increasing – not all related to foreign travel so it is probably here already. A couple of numbers – Vaccines bought by richer countries = 7billion; Vaccines bought by lower-income countries = 300million. We are not safe until we are all safe.

Typical mixed messages in the press regarding the latest variant. When scientists do not know the level of danger it would seem prudent to be cautious. The government seems to be doing this, although it may need to put more countries on the red list as the case of a man in Belgium with the variant, had travelled in Egypt and Turkey, not Southern Africa. Cases have also been detected in Israel and Hong Kong.

The government and Priti Useless continue with the blame game. They fail to understand some of the key facts.

Very sad. The Sun has a picture of French Police watching a boat leave. Xenophobia is promoted. Radio 5 allowed a woman on a phone in to state that ‘many’ migrants were criminals escaping justice and economic migrants. First off – there appear to be more criminals in the House of Commons on the Tory benches. Secondly, I am not sure at what age a child stops being a child and becomes an economic migrant. Hopefully some of these people might start work in one of the many areas we are short of labour as soon as possible.

Unfortunately what I call passive racism is ingrained in out society. Many people would declare tat they were not racist at the same time as using offensive ‘banter’. Until we confront our history we will be blighted by the virus of racism. Of course statues to the murderers of the past should be moved, the National Trust should declare where the huge wealth that enabled our stately homes to be built comes from. Perhaps too many in the wealthy echelons of society still reap benefits from the gross abuse of the poor.

Priti Patel and Dominic Raab state that asylum seekers will be sent to Albania. However this is denied by Albania’s Foreign Minister (a woman not a man – The Times please note) and its ambassador to the UK. So all ministers now feel free to join in the bullshit! It is so sad that they put more time and effort into appeasing rightwing nutters than the problem itself.
