I was not aware that whilst our government (and USA, etc.) can borrow money at almost zero interest rates, emerging countries like South Africa are having to pay 8% and thus cannot afford lockdown or furlough schemes. The USA mean while is throwing trillions $$$$ at the problem.
Also interesting modelling of a potential 3rd wave. An article stated that it was the lockdown which has caused infections to fall by 95%, with some contribution from vaccines. I suppose this is logical as most of the older people like myself, who have been vaccinated, are also most likely to be more efficient at isolation and social distancing. So it will be very interesting to watch the figures again. With the papers seemingly encouraging people to go out and go mad, I suspect they will. rise fairly rapidly. Then the question relates to long covid and time off work?
I think I am correct in stating that, although I can get infected, the virus will be less harmful. If I am infected I think this means that I am less likely to pass it on. Thus meaning that vaccination is essential for all? Herd immunity does not occur unless about 80% of people have had the virus or vaccination. And mutation of the virus is increased with the number of people infected. This is why the roll out of the vaccine worldwide is imperative.
And travel to holiday resorts abroad is madness. They will attract people from all over the developed world – mainly young un-vaccinated people, who are, quite reasonably, more relaxed regarding covid precautions. There are lots of problems and losses due to covid, tourist resorts around the world are going to suffer. If I was a billionaire I would buy something like Centre Parks, put in banks of tanning machines, provide a free/cheap bar , all night club, etc. and recreate the Ibiza experience at home. To be honest Spain and Greece and Italy etc. are wasted on these people anyway. Provide for them to get tanned, wasted, laid, and I guess that is it?
