Food prices will continue to rise as the EU start to treat us as a foreign country (which we now are). HGV drivers will not suddenly materialise – in the past 10000 have been trained per year, that’s 10% of requirements.
Maybe, just maybe, we need to totally think again about the whole economic system and supply chain. With poly tunnels and greenhouses I guess we could grow more of our own food rather than import it from the Netherlands (with a climate a little colder than ours in winter!). maybe we will need to change our eating habits a little – fresh fruit at Christmas could be replaced by frozen – not the same, but as good.
