The news continues to be dominated by the rich and famous powerful men. At the moment dominated by Trump, Mountbatten-Winsor, Putin. So I thought I would make a list of famous women. Starting of with the Queens, Victoria and the Elizabeths; then Emmeline Pankhurst and Emile Davidson; Florence Nightingale; Marie Curie; Rosa Parks; Amelia Ehart; Mother Teresa; Indira Ghandi; then a couple I have forgotton the names of who worked at NASA and Bletchley Park respectively. I have avoided cultural and sporting icons as men outnumber women by about 100:1! Historically Joan of Arc and Eleanor of Acquitaine but not including Anne Boleyn as it was all about Henry! Reluctantly I would add Maggie Thatcher and possibly Eleanor Roosevelt; Elizabeth Fry (lived locally); then a string of authors Jane Austin, Enid Blyton, Bronte sisters, Agatha Christie and Beatrix Potter; Marilyn Monroe gets in the list as she is iconic. Of current contenders only Greta Thunberg is worthy of a mention. Of course a list of female pop stars and actresses would be extensive.
So society is male dominated – the media has concentrated on Epstein and Andrew with barelyba mention of the victims. 92% of homicides last year were commited by men of which 83 were woman killed by partners (25 men killed by partners). Obviously each death can have complicated issues – women in situations of domestic violence are rarely recorded as such. 50% of those arrested for protesting about child abuse by asylum seekers were themselves known to the police for domestic violence. Reporting vs. Outcomes: Despite high reports, only about 3.2% of reported rapes resulted in a charge in 2021-2022. And conviction rate is is just above 50%. So less than 2% of reported rapes ends in a conviction. I am aware that an accurate assessment of what happens in a private situation is obscured, But the situation is skewed by the male dominated society we live in. Andrew and Tristan Tate have huge followings for their misogynistic and vile posts on social media. The Daily Mail https://bylinetimes.com/2025/04/23/the-two-faces-of-the-daily-mails-media-misogyny/
