AFGHANISTAN

Raab’s statement that in hindsight it was a bad idea to go on holiday at that time. Hindsight has nothing to do with it – it was a bad idea – full stop.

The Taliban by all western standards are evil with their sharia law and treatment of women. above all. In my limited experience the poorer people are the more easily they are radicalised, so the trillions spent in the country by Nato forces (following on from Soviet ones) was wasted on military spending and no doubt some hefty expense accounts and profits for certain industrial/military companies (who will now need another conflict for western democracies to fritter money away on – spiffing up the wall I think Johnson called it).

Afghanistan relied on 70% aid for its budget – this will disappear in the most part. Various warlords, tribal groupings, and maybe radical islamic groups will flourish in a country, which at the moment, seems to have no prospects of providing a basic standard of living for it people. Surrounding countries will be nervous of the infiltration of radicals into their poorer neighbourhoods (I am thinking Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Iran).

I guess the heroin industry will also receive a jump in supply as this is a ready income for the Taliban.
