Will it ever stop? The ‘levelling up fund is apparently for areas that vote Tory – not the poorest. An Economic Crime Bill promised ages ago has not made an appearance – Russian money has sluiced through the city, as evidenced by the property boom caused by Russian Oligarchs.
At least the Met Police maintain standards? OH NO _ it has denied a culture of misogyny after an official report found details of police officers sharing messages about hitting and raping women, as well as the deaths of black babies and the holocaust. No wonder that Johnson has confidence in the Police to fuck up any enquiry. Unfortunately complaints are not restricted to the Met Police. It is a culture, not a few bad apples.
Is the whole system rotten to the core? Do we have too much of the old boy network based around our public schools? Was Dominic Cummings correct in respect of his identification of the need to get a civil service that is fit for purpose – has people with the skills rather than the contacts. Is Downing Street being protected by the Omertà of upper echelons of the ciil service, police, and Conservative party.
I have seen so much evidence of poor Members of Parliament I wonder if we should change the way we select candidates across the board. No longer should candidates be able to put themselves forward. Start at the parish level by co-opting suitable people from business and unions, public and private organisations, different age, ethnic and religious groups. Then there would be a vote. Those who perform well at this level will be put forward to the next level, etc. Probably a silly idea but the stench of corruption is polluting our society and reputation across the world. Fiddling expenses led to jail terms – this is far, far worse.
