BLAME

There are of course issues to. be dealt with, not least of which is the humanitarian one of why people will risk their lives to cross one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. The numbers are large, but probably not as large as the public has been encouraged to think. 24.700 this year, which is up 3X on last year (distorted down due to Covid).

Surely what is needed is a concerted effort to make it safer for them in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and other conflict zones. Incidentally I wonder how much profit this country made from arms sales in these areas? The British Government (Both Tory and Labour) over the past 20 years have pursued disastrous policies in the Middle East and North Africa and these migrants are a tiny consequence of this.

With the government cutting back on aid this flow of people is unlikely to stop. With excess of 80 million people forcibly displaced from their homes tis trend will only increase. We are also beginning to see the displacement of people permanently due to climatic change. And again countries such as the UK will have the moral duty to help due to our responsibility for the causes – AGAIN. Whilst we waltzed through half a millennium as if the earth and its resources were our play thing, and most of the worlds population was there to serve the elite of Europeans, thus enabling us to accrue vast wealth, the shit is now hitting the fan!

This country needs to put itself on a sustainable footing as fast as possible to enable us to play a major role in world development.
