CAN DEMOCRACY STEP UP

A sensible government would look at the climate crisis (and I mean in all countries here) – and say that we need to act, need to act big and act fast knowing that the public will hate them for doubling the price of their revolting Double Mac and cheese, and their petrol.

Its like ‘hey make me Prime Minister and I will increase taxes and the cost of living to save insects’. WTF – no chance!

So we need a benign dictatorship – and there is not a great history of these! Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, although some of our ‘leaders of democracy’ have tainted records – Churchill, Blair, Thatcher, Bush etc. Nyerere in Tanzania seemed like a good guy as did Mujica and Vazquez in Paraguay, I am sure there are others from poorer countries but they all have to combat the vested interests of capitalism (as Allende in Chile had to!). Our government could and probably is, giving them a few lessons in corruption!

So will a coalition work better – probably not, we wait to see what sort of government the Germans come up. with. I suppose what a democracy needs is a respected and intelligent statesman and leader unlike the faux comedian we are stuck with for the present. With their majority the Nasty Party should be laying out an agenda for the future. Not lining their grubby little fingers (although most like Rees-Bogg leave getting actual dirt on their fingers to their inferior partners).
