POSITIVE NEWS ON THE ENVIRONMENT
Well done Julia Davies, lawyer and former part owner of Osprey Europe outdoor equipment company. rather than buy and rewind some land herself she has guaranteed a £4 million loan to Dorset Wildlife Trust to obtain and rewild Court Farm near Bere Regis. this loan whatever then enabled the trust to obtain further grants. Let’s hope there are more philanthropists like her to counter decades of harmful farming policies.
GREEN ISSUES
The governments Environment Bill is an attempt to reduce domestic environment thresholds following Brexit. the House of Lords have tabled over 100 amendments. The ECJ is to be replaced by an Office for Environmental Protection. Which will weaken not strengthen environmental protection. The government maintains that it will be operationally independent from Defra and ministers will not be able to influence its decisions. Anyone who believes that is a total fool.

Is on track to hit New Orleans on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on Sunday. A storm surge of 3m is expected in many areas and winds in excess of 130kph. Oil production has been ceased in many rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. And another depression developing in mid-Atlantic whilst Hurricane Nora hits the eastern Pacific region with high winds and rainfall near Puerto Vallarta and Baja California Peninsula.

In the interests of the environment I am cutting down on meat – not becoming a vegan fanatic, just cutting down. POPULATION
I started teaching in 1976 and population was a major issue. Population Concern published great posters. Since then the world population has gone up from 4.2 billion to 7.6 billion. All those extra mouths to feed, bodies to house and clothes, excrement to be disposed of. Population growth has ceased to be an issue in much of Europe with a birth rate below 2.1, but immigration has become a major issue. In the same time period the population of Africa has almost trebled, SE Asia doubled.
A GREEN AGENDA
is urgently needed. Not piecemeal statements which will be picked over by the rightwing press like flies on a corpse, but a comprehensive document which cane sold to the public. One which shows that the main costs will be born by the wealthy not the poor. although how Steve Baker (rightwing MP will manage a U Turn on that will be interesting.

TIDY IS A FOUR LETTER WORD
I admit that tidy is not a word that I have ever been accused of, but I am proud of this. The green wheelie bins will be out tomorrow, taking away the bits that might make our gardens untidy. The stinging nettles and ragwort are purged from the pristine environment that society has come to expect.
