PROMS

They miss the irony! Harvey Proctor and Nils Gardner were amongst those decrying democracy at the final night of the Proms. They call for the BBC to conduct an inquiry as they did not like the number of EU flags being waved. No one was forced to wave one.

Despite ‘Rule, Britannia!’ being strongly associated with the Royal Navy, the song predates Britain’s domination of the seas, and historians suggest the music was actually created to oppose the Royals in power at the time of the premiere.

FOOTBALL

So the euphoria for Spanish women’s football has been extinguished by Luis Rubiales. I am not sure if this is a reflection of Spanish society or just the knobs who run international sport. For a fleeting moment I believed that the Spanish victory, although sad for England, would benefit the quest for equality – certainly in Western Europe. Quite how anyone can justify a solicited kiss on the lips is beyond me. The fact he has refused to resign is also indicative of the way the ruling class treat the rest of us. This country is no exception – cost of living crisis “I know we will double the pay off for MP’s who lose their seats (often due to gross incompetence)”.

Manchester United looks like it will be sold for about £6billion. Thus giving the Glazier family a really obscene profit despite running the club and its facilities to a sorry state.

FOOTBALL -PL ROUND 1!

Well I know first impressions are not always correct and the transfer window has a while (and Spurs have a wad to spend). But there was an outstanding result today with the barCodes thrashing Villa. I am not sure this predicts a demise of the Villa or the rise to Premiership winners for NewC’s. I suspect the latter! Elsewhere Arsenal grabbed full points without being convincing; Brighton stuffed Luton – which may become a habit for the Hatters? Bournemouth and WHU played out a mid table draw! The Blades were blunted Crystals as Palace won 1-0 which says little for the season ahead. And then Everton v Fulham. Was this already a 6 pointer? TBH Everton look stuffed, no money to buy and a team lacking confidence and luck!

So today – Brentford – Spurs, and Chelsea -Liverpool. Will we learn a lot about the season ahead? Tomorrows game is ManU-Wolves which should be straightforward for UTD. I think we may have the top 8 and bottom 8 sorted by 11pm on Monday! Half time and Brentford are 2-2 Spurs. Have the likes of Brentford and Brighton really made it to mid-table fixtures? Both were earmarked for immediate relegation when promoted? Or are they the Leicesters and Southamptons – up of a while and then going back down? I suppose it all comes down to money. Even with a sound youth academy Southampton have struggled.

LADOLEMONO

A very simple recipe for everything! 3 lemons, 1/2tsp dried oregano, 100ml olive oil, salt and pepper.

I think my favourite cookbook at the moment is Taverna by Georgina Hayden. Latest adaption of her recipe is flatbreads stuffed with tomatoes, garlic, feta and mixed herbs. 200g flour,1/4 tsp salt, 50ml olive oil, 1/2 tbs wine vinegar, mix knead an leave rest for 45mins. Roll out 0.5 cm thick. Make 5 patties and fill. Prepare filing – I chose tomato, garlic, chilli and feta. Heat frying pan with a little oil, 2/3 minutes each side.

AVOID TEMPTATION!

A tidy garden is a sterile one. Leave some stinging nettles for our most popular butterflies for whom it is their only food (Peacock, Small Tortishell, Red Admiral, and Painted Lady) and several moths too.. And should you be lucky enough to have wild thistles with their magnificent heads, they are food for paineted lady butterflies and later in the year their dried stems provide protection for over wintering insects and their larvae. Add a few rotting logs under a bush and see what happens. My neighbours lawns are nicely trimmed and as interesting as a wall of drying paint!

It is hardly a wildlife haven but a couple of bees and a small white and a skipper butterflies on the chickory.

WILDFIRES

Fires are now alight all the way around the Mediterranean. From Spain to Lebanon to Algeria and Morocco. Shapps says government will ‘max out North Sea oil and gas’ whilst Gove talks about the need to ‘stop an environbmental crusade’. Goldsmith – arch Brexiteer admits that this government has used Brexit to do the wrong things regarding the environment.

Meanwhile the Daily Express continues to. fuel Frages ego-trip rather than admit that tye public do not give a shit as to whether the shit has a Coutt’s bank account or not, and the Daily Mail is trying to fuel hatred at lawyers representing asylum seekers.

TOYOTA

A reprot in the Guardian states claims that Toyota have made a breakthrough with a solid state battery for cars. A range of 745 miles, charge in 10 minutes, half the weight and half the cost. They claim it could be in production in 4 years. It would be a real game changer and could impact on plans for ‘super battery factories’ on the UK. If it also worked with domestic electricity and solar panels it could cut many peoples energy bills to almost zero.

Meanwhile the government proposes to drop £11.6bn pledge to world climate fund. And the WMO states that El Nino is likely to cause extreme temperatures and weather events over the next couple of years. Thus the likelyhood increases of more climate refugees – and we know how the government has a viscreal dislike of refugees. Tackling the climate crisis is not optional, it is not even futuristic. However it is discrimatory between rich and poor. The rich continue to fly their private planes and helicopters with impunity, have central heating and air conditioning without concern for their energy bills. islanders on Tuvalu may have to leave the island sooner than expected as sea levels and storms increase. The poor in the vulnerable countries have no home insurance to compensate them for floods, earth slides, droughts. And the rich British Government will turn a blind eye to their plight. At least boris wanted to be liked – Sunak shows no compassion, understanding or empathy, just a love of money and power.

PRIDE

How Johnson can write such crap? My comments about the sub were purely mine, although maybe I have leftist DNA? BORIS JOHNSON: Lefties sneer. But those brave souls on the submarine died in a cause – pushing out the frontiers of human knowledge – that’s typically British and that fills me with pride Pushing out the frontiers of human knowledge? Brave? What is he on? He obviously does not know the boundary between excessively riched and privileged; and egoistic and selfish! As for the frontiers of human knowledge, there is nothing hew to see down there, just a macarbre sight of a mass rave. As for the “lefties sneer” – what does he mean? That most normal people can think of better ways of spending £250000 but sneering was not a thing I saw?

The thing that is Johnson is a horrible spectre of the worst of humanity.

POLICE

The Met Police are considering the video? How much fucking evidence do they need? Video with sound that acknowledges that they were breaking lockdown rules – and then Johnson awards some gongs to some of them! So mich shit around! especially around our shores where Scarborough and Blackpool have advised against swimming. The government has estimated the cost in £billions and the time in decades. I would give companies 3 years or be privatised with no cost to the public. We would see things happen fast!

Meanwhile it seems that many Tory MP’s will abstain from their democratic duty to recommend the findings of the Priviledges Committee – just who do they represent? Surely the rules of Parliament should be sacrosanct? Whilst on about the liar-in-chief it seems that ‘red wall’ MP’s are at the forefront of Johnson supporting MP’s – does this mean that people up north are still under the thrall of the liar? Thatcher destroyed their wealth and the present government have compounded their misery with a Brexit which has reduced incomes. Not all northerners are as thick as Nadime Dorries?????
