Obviously the railways should be denationalised as privatisation has not worked. Rail fares need reducing – by subsidy if necessary. Local bus services should also be subsidised if the company provides emission free transport. All taxis should have to be electric by 2025 – perhaps with interest free loans.
Funding this will be partially met by calculating the savings in harm to the atmospheric pollution of present system,s and health savings to the NHS. Cutting payouts to shareholders and bonus’ would also save 3-5% at least.
As everyone knows, economics is a science imagined along with Alice in Wonderland. It is now time to ensure that environmental costs are part of the equation, not just an analysis add on to be ignored at will. This will of course be as popular as Chris Packham and probably provoke the same results. My money will be on the police not finding anyone for the arson at his home, despite it being relatively easy to narrow the list of suspects down. Perhaps we need a 777 number for environmental crime and a 789 one for racism, 555 for religious crime, or maybe 000 to speak to someone who cares!
