At every stage the LoG Party have got it wrong. From delaying the initial shut down, mismanagement of the PPE debacle, test and trace, exam results, dismantling and undermining the civil service when the opposite was required, disregarding local health experts and handing million pound contracts to organisations with NO relevant experience, quarantine measures that made no sense, a support for restaurants programme that cost lots, but with little long term benefit. All of these are horrendous mistakes but the biggest is ongoing.
The lack of a coherent programme is still being debated, and it is not rocket science! There should be set markers (number of infections, number per 100.000, r number, hospital admissions, deaths). These should be set and published so that everyone can see where their area is. There should be trigger points – where levels of the above are reached- which cause local health and welfare, and councils to form ‘COBRA’ meetings to initiate restrictions. These meetings would be given immediate delegated powers and include surrounding, adjacent areas. The LoG Party should BUTT out unless serious lack of local management is shown.
Test and tracing should be removed from Serco and Deloitte, and returned to local health authorities and local laboratories.
Lastly there should be clear guidelines developed with behavioural scientists to ensure a unified public response is followed.
There would be differences between areas under these ideas – but restricting non-essential movement in and out of certain areas would minimise the differences.
Oh, and the LoG party says it is following scientific advice – publish it then. We can all see if it is being followed or whether they have found some compliant scientists to say what they want (Just like climate change deniers do!).
