COVID-19 7 October 2020

Latest figures with 27 Sept figs in brackets first. All figures from BBC Covid in your area.

North Somerset (26 I think) – 31 ; Cornwall (28 I think). – 20; Bristol (19) -46; Chelmsford (11) – 41; Exeter – 283; Liverpool – 516; Plymouth (14) – 30; Leicester (118) – 129; Leeds (227) – 347; Newcastle (209) – 445; Sunderland (174) – 274; IoW (5) – 10.

So to try and analyse these figures. Firstly the very distinctive north-south divide in England, which was finally picked up by the BBC this morning! The most noticeable exception was Exeter? Wales is the reverse, South -North which is to be expected. Northern Ireland is high, and Central Scotland. But some staggering rises in infection.

Forget government diktats (or barney’s dick waving!), at what point does someone like me need to take extra precautions? When numbers are below 10 I think I am safe to say that social distancing and mask wearing is enough. At what point do we think about avoiding journeys out of the local area? Of not stock piling, but ,making sure we have enough of the essentials before others stockpile them! Actually I can’t think of anything here, I have loads of toilet rolls since I bought a box full last year from ‘who gives a crap’.

Basically I believe the public are not being given access to the information necessary for them to make proper decisions. Is this because of a desire for government to control people (those anti-vaccine, anti-mask wearers may have a point? Or is it just the ludicrous inefficiency and ineffectualness of the Government without a clue.
