COVID

Numbers in Europe, even in countries with higher vaccination rates than us are rising – although the EU average is still lower than the UK. UK rate is up 13.1% in last 7 days whilst deaths are still high. On this I receive regular comments about the (tested for covid within 28 days of death) issue. Perhaps statistics which placed these into context with other causes would be useful?

It is worth noting that countries which have maintained social distancing and face masks have a lower level of infection – at present. I will not name t5he person who thought covid should have been allowed to run unimpeded, rather than have any lockdown, but that view is more prevalent today.

I wonder if I have become a little paranoid myself? I am not wearing a mask all the time when by myself in a store or outside. But am very wary of large congregations of people, and very aware of people with colds! Most are wearing a mask out of respect to others – is this good as it will reduce infection, or bad because it reduces built up immunity?

I think I might go back to my weekly data base – although I am not convinced about the usefulness. Torridge area which has been amongst the lowest at the most important times is up 102% at a figure of 876 – with 602 cases, whilst Lelant and Carbis Bay have 10 cases. I remain confused!, or my area Winscombe, etc. has 22 cases – down by a third on a couple of weeks.

Other countries are bringing in vaccine passports, and over half the public support this in the UK.
