COVID 4 MAY

It is still sad to see builders coming in and not wearing a mask, I know it does not matter, and we tend to lower them when it is just us in the shop first thing, but! This mornings duo were typical, seeing them eat a sausage roll outside the shop was particularly revolting, have they never been told that their mouth should be shut when eating!

Chat to ex-colleague of mine this morning. he was decrying the liberal views on racism as being pathetic, and us being better than elsewhere. He rather likes to portray himself as a provocative exponent of the working class (defined by him as white van drivers). I think he has fallen into the trap of reinforcing his own prejudices by the web sites he accesses and the friends he has. I am not belittling them, but we all need to be aware that we tend to communicate with simply minded people and websites – myself included. I tend to avoid the Mail web site and the Telegraph. He was basically slagging off anyone who was not pro=government and business, but promoting a 4 day working week!

ManU football protest. Fan I heard was just asking for representation on the board as he recognised that the club would be owned by a billionaire. Johnson is making the right noises until Thursdays election in Hartlepool.

Cornwall housing. Airbnb is a lovely alternative for rich people to come in and buy a second home. The benefit to the Cornish economy is negligible. Minimum wage cleaners and shop workers, maybe a bit of maintenance. Hotels presumably miss out. This summer will be interesting with record numbers said to be heading south west. Roads jammed, beaches crowded, villages swamped? litter could be an interesting aspect (locals should get a click counter rather than picking it up! And then the new West Kernow Way cycle path around Land’s End and the Lizard. I hope the NHS and police, etc. are using numbers to cope? They should not be able to claim surprise at the numbers going down.

And then there is Northern Ireland. % backing a united Ireland is upto 43% – 51% in Eire. It is getting tight! I am sure the Conservative and Unionist Party (to give it its full name) would ditch Northern Ireland in the twinkling of an eye. In may ways it is inevitable.
