COVID AUGUST

If these figures had occurred in say 2017 there would be major concerns and debate. Now nothing from vacationers! Serious decisions need to be made now, before we get into Autumn (yes it is not here yet!). The Boardmasters festival in Cornwall was attended by 50.000, it was using the NHS covid app on entry, and campers were asked to take a lateral test during the festival. Nearly 5000 cases have been reported that were directly linked to the festival despite 450 people being refused entry or asked to leave after a positive test.

As sporting events are not testing it is impossible to know whether the large crowds are fuelling the recent growth in cases. Again it would seem that the government has fucked up. Wearing masks has been shown to be 20% effective, not brilliant, but a significant help.

So the government needs to be carefully considering what measures need to be instated NOW, to prevent the need for another lockdown, which they will not do regardless of the loss of life.

I was not renowned as a teacher for setting, and keeping to, clear rules – but I could, and did, stick to the important ones. Now is the time to ensure that all schools are issued with clear guidelines on preventative measures, and instructions on how to manage outbreaks of the virus. Of course we do not wish to disrupt education, but neither do we wish to have more deaths and long term illness. So Williamson – get typing!

More anti-vax protests against broadcasters – just what are they hoping to achieve? A denial of my right to get vaccinated? A disruption of TV shows? I really do not understand. I do not necessarily agree with all protesters, but agree they should be allowed a stage if they have discernible objectives that are deemed to be reasonable and plausible. Personally I think Extinction Rebellion can go too far a times, pro-hunt lobbies the same. Anti-abortionists are entitled to make their point, but not to the extent of violence against abortion clinics and doctors. It is always a fine line between reasonable dissent and criminal activity that is to the detriment of society. If people want to march against rules about wearing masks – let them, if they want to stop me wearing a mask it is wrong.

I also appreciate that lockdown measures have a greater impact on the poor – so implement a one off tax on the capital gains of individuals and pension funds to compensate them, and ban the papers from publishing about finding a delivery driver who is getting £200 more a week than they were before! – Hey, small minded jealous people, it really does not matter about a few unfortunate people making a few quid, when ignoring the huge salaries and benefits and gains the rich have made during this period of discomfort.
