Then we have a government with a whopping majority which many of its own MP’s feel has lost the plot. Whilst the numbers of MP’s voting against the government is low but increasing 13 to 19 in last rebellion, and at least 50 abstaining. This whopping majority is withering with increasing evidence of incompetence and sleaze.
proportional representation has its own major problems – Germany and Netherlands have no new government despite elections ages ago. I think Belgium once went a couple of years. But consensus is generally a situation that is preferable to reeling from right to left (which the present PM can do by himself).
