EDUCATION

However the nasty party want to blame a term called ‘white privilege’ for the under-performance of white poor (stop calling them working class – their parents are often not working at all).

I have not studied this at all, nor do I have the data. But could it be that culture plays a large part. I remember vividly that my Grandmother-in-law told me that education was a dangerous thing as it gave young people hopes above their ‘station’ in life. I certainly believe this attitude has had a detrimental impact on my ex! Geographically we have concentrated poor people in estates – predominately white in most areas, where their indifference to education is supported and multiplied by their peers. (I think there is a pertinent song from the Kaiser Chiefs “Never miss a beat” ).

Other groups can have a ‘victim’ attitude that can motivate some. They know that society is not handing out much help, in fact the contrary. Did Marcus Rashford have an easy childhood? No these sad M.P.s are pandering to the very people they have let down. Whilst sending their offspring to public schools or moving to the areas serving the better state schools (and Laour are as guilty of this as any, but a parent who does their best for their children should not be criticised). But we should criticise those who deprive those less fortunate of the opportunity to progress ‘above their station’ in life!

So really this is an internal war in the party of the privileged! The ‘Red Wall’ M.P.s want something done to even up opportunities, whilst the ‘Blue Wall’ tories are panicking that their support of privilege for the middle and upper classes will be eroded. All Labour and LibDems and Greens have to do is throw in a few rolls of petroleum and watch the flames as the opposing philosophies are sorted out between the PM and Chancellor of the Exchequer. This relationship should also be interesting over the next few months!

Meanwhile poor students of all races are left without much of a future – even those who go to University are left behind if they do not have he privileged contacts of ‘daddy’ or ‘mummy’! So tossers in the blue suits, it is totally down to class and poverty.
