EU Deal

  1. Health checks on food exports will go.  In return we have to accept the standards that we set! But now are not party to.  In general the UK asked for high levels of health than the EU countries anyway.  A definite win.
  2. Fisheries – there were some who believe in a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.  The fisheries agreement is extended for 12 years which gives certainty.  70% of fish caught by UK fishers is exported , now it will not need health checks and shell fish will be able to be exported red tape free. A moderate win.
  3. Youth exchanges and Erasmus.  As expected, not part of the deal at present.  But as I said yesterday only the rapid nationalists could object.
  4. Defence and security are and were developing closer links – but the UK is opened to bid for rearmament financing.  A win.
  5. Travel and e-gates – further opening and reduction in waiting time.  A win
  6. Iron and steel – free movement? A win.

So really nothing to complain about, and only a first step. Badenoch says she would repeal the whole thing – but then she is unlikely to be in post this time next year, possibly next week!

So there is still much to be sorted but it is a brilliant start
