So let me deal with this country first – The Daily Trash would love to support Trump but knows that their readers are not enamoured with an egoistic narcissist with rape convictions, dodgy financial deals and above all was rude to the Queen! I get where MR.White van driver was coming from – he works hard and barely covers the rent and living expenses. Trump spouts nonsense about how he “will drain the swamp” of civil servants in Washington. And I believe it goes beyond basic racism and anti-migrant crap. The taking back control bit appeals to those shafted by society and have no way to fight it. And above all facts are less important than perceptions. Rod Stewart was correct when he said ‘a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse”.
There is a large population of people who never listen to analytical news but rely on the 30 second news byte. In the UK this meant that there was no meaningful dicussion about Brexit to be heard. In the USA they refer to ‘sending migrants home’, putting taxes on foreign imports, transgender rights and woeness. i.e. they pick on the things that the person struggling to survive financially could not have the time, energy of experience to understand.
Trump gave them solutions of a kind to the problems he identified for them. Harris was stuck with a lame administration that was short on rhetoric. Being a personable lady was not enough. Starmer won the last election not only because the Tories were as effective as a perforated condom, but because he offered hope and, albeit sketchy, plans for the future.
Mr. White Van Driver may care to reflect on his comments when Trump imposes tarrifs and quotas on UK products and our economy contracts. I can’t stop a niggling feeling that Trump’s anti-globalisation rhetoric whilst probably no more than a fart in the wind, could actually be beneficial to the environment. This Christmas we will import boatloads of crap from the far east at great environmental cost, then in January we will load boats up with the same crap to be disposed of some where else (just not UK). Personally I would regret it if the UK stopped trade with the EU – olives, cheese etc. But less trade with the rest of the world would be beneficial to the environment. Australia and N.Z. would be OK as they have easy access to Asia.
And thinking – cars build for the USA market might not be the best for Europe – smaller roads and distances.
