There may be a nugget of truth in the need for better cooking skills (ask Jamie Oliver). But home cooking is a skill for better nutrition rather than saving money. Making your own beef burgers is more expensive than the value ones (advised by another Minister – George Eustace, although much nicer).
Unfortunately his comments are not appropriate in the context of food banks and the crisis of poverty. Yesterday it was announced that dividends exceeded wages to the extent that wages would have risen by £4000 if they had risen commensurately. The problem is not food banks and lack of culinary skills or lack of budgeting. As an aside Anderson claimed over £200000 of tax payers money as expenses.
