HURRICANES

Global warming certainly is playing a part. Yes there have been lots of previous hurricanes, some much stronger, but few have developed in the way Milton has. Most develop over the Atlantic and then deepen as they move into the shallower waters of the Caribbean, Milton however was just a tropical storm which which then developed into a hurricane within the Caribbean. (I hope this is correct – I do not have access to all the info). Trump has been silent on the issue as far as I know. Global warming does not fit into his drill, drill, drill philosophy or that of the far right populist bollox that is often funded by the carbon companies. Hopefully Milton will detour south to hit Mar-a-lago.

For info! Hurricanes form when there is a low pressure system that develops over an ocean at 26C or above to a depth of 40m – this provides the energy. It then needs to be at least 5 degrees from the equator to induce the spin. The main impacts are a storm surge, high rainfall and lastly strong winds. The winds are probably the least damaging.
