INTERNATIONAL NEWS

India – disastrous situation regarding Covid. Again a horrible nationalist leadership. Andy wondered why we had not got oxygen to them more quickly – I wondered if a nationalist government had not made it easy?

UK – Johnson shows his understanding of the environment by flying by helicopter to promote a local bike hire initiative – imbecile!

Glasgow – Local activists prevent Home Office Immigration Enforcement Officers from arresting 2 men. Police Scotland support the crowd.

Hampshire and Dorset – Disposable barbecues banned. Aaron, please note if the weather turns dry again?

Bolton and Blackburn Covid – India variant (which may be more transmissible, but there is no evidence of increased virulence) – have surged in this area. So the government – as usual, very slow to react with action, is ‘considering’ a surge vaccine programme. ‘No shit Sherlock”! And this brings me onto whether we should be doing more around the world? I have no idea of the impact of investment by the government in the vaccine programme. So I am talking from a point of ignorance of the facts. But I think it is wrong to compare foreign aid and vaccine distribution. It makes sense to virtually eradicate the virus in the UK and USA and Europe as we have the means to do so (communications and infrastructure). That does not mean ignoring the rest of the world and hopefully we are now in a position to do a lot more.

And anyone wants to comment on the lack of internationalism in this post they can FO! I have a bout of menhirs disease – I doubt that is how it is spent, but do not care!

USA – ok, I feel guilty. Ohio is offering a $1 million lottery prize to those being vaccinated – obviously a good idea if it gets people vaccinated, but a sad state of affairs for the public community in that state!

Bristol – Green Party did really well – up to joint biggest party with Labour, Interesting that this is in the context of the BLM events, and the Kill the Bill ones, and a Mayor who seems to be respected, and the West of England Mayor who is also labour. It made me think about what I want from a MP? Basically nothing because I am alright. But I think the Green Party is appealing to the devolutionist aspect of society. We do not want Westminster to dictate what we do. I think that the Green Party can do this in many areas more effectively, but Labour will get organised too.

If I was a rich bastard I might want one to keep taxes low. A good tory (I am led to believe these do exist), will argue that they produce a bigger cake so the slices for NHS, Education, etc. go up. A fair argument – but not applicable at the moment
