Maybe this is a genuine attempt by Kash Singh, but it adoption by the government is just a shoddy bit of electioneering by a Minister of Education who would be advised to do his job properly in the first place, which would thus ensure greater inclusion in society for all our children.
In many ways I am proud of my local, national and European Heritage. When I meet Europeans whom I can converse with (being linguistically illiterate) I find I have a lot more in common with them than Americans or Australians despite the language. Culturally we share a similar history to certainly Western Europeans, Americans and Australians basically obliterated any previous history to their arrival.
It is not oneness we should be extolling, but the diversity that our society has until now promoted. Although the Tory Government has promoted sending immigrants home 9the infamous bus), packing illegal immigrants off to St.Helena, made it difficult to get citizenship for people who have lived and worked here for 20 or more years, failed the Windrush generation, institutionalised racism in public services – especially the police force, and I am sure there are many more instances.
Patriotism is for the ignorant and bigoted. I love my country when it helps others, shows tolerance, kindness and respect, ( I am not so sure about pride), but spend most of time being ashamed at the incompetence, vindictiveness and selfishness and … oh so many other things. I do love our weather however!
