M.P’s EXPENSES

Most could be done on line, including voting. I accept there are other issues where being there in person is important (maybe the budget debate, issues of national importance which need detailed debate). But these could be held on set days a week (with allowances for emergencies). Therefore no MP would need to have a flat in London as a necessity. Let them stay at the Hilton or whatever for £200+ per night if the Parliamentary Calendar deems presence necessary or desirable. There by the expenses budget is cut by a huge amount.

Do MP’s claim the rent, etc. costs of their constituency offices as expenses? I would see the local council provide an office for them, and maybe major opposition parties – I might call it democracy!!
