What I am saying is that these figures do not represent permanent moves. With an ageing population the UK needs more workers until it can find ways of coping with falling numbers of workers sustainably. The UK population now exceeds that of France in a much smaller area. We desperately need an intelligent non-racist debate about migration, both international and internal. Labours talk of house building in the green belt is nonsensical, there are hundreds of flats being built in Bristol which seems much more practical. The impact of second homes in holiday hot spots is croppling on the local young and the economy
