MIGRATION

Then the French thing. By leaving the EU we left many international treaties behind (not that we consider them important any way!). Apart from the obvious humanitarian aspect, why should the French keep all these people in France. The French claim 62.5% of departures were halted. A sensible policy would be to ensure a safe passage for those eligible and ensuring that the UK takes its fair share. Allow them to be processed fairly before needing to risk their lives across the Channel.

And let us remember that these people are young and resourceful. Thereby a benefit to a society which welcomes and integrates them. Even with numbers around 25000 so far this year, this is a very small number in a population over 60 million.

As ever we forget the role of our foreign policy over the past 20 years that has fuelled the desperation of people in Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq and Iran. Iran’s government has become more authoritarian with hostility and sanctions from the west.

Now is the time for World leaders to take the initiative in creating stable situations in these countries. Note the word stable – not wealthy.
