Back to the monachist fancy dress party. Yesterday I posted about the £1 billion boost to the economy by the Coronation. Research shows that a bank holday usually adds £500 to the hospitality industry – so a Coronation might double this, although as last weekend was a Bank Holiday it seems improbable that the normal figure would be doubled? Somewhere I read that there were 3000 street parties planned – at a generous 50 people each that is 150.000 or 0.2% of the population! Hardly rock solid support. Again if asked if their support for the royals was based on fear of an alternative I suspect we would find that the support for the royals is not based on “rock solid” foundations, but sand!
BTW – The Torygraph is still trying to bring back Johnson by accusing Sue Gray of wrongdoing – they are desperate. Meanwhile the good old Star wants E.T. to contact Dave (Attenborough)!
Back to the title of the post. I believe we should be concerned because the NatCons want to create divergence in society. We have seen how some societies become polarised by the hatrid and lies. Bravermans toxic rhetoric appeals not only to the racists but those who fear change (which would seem to include a lot of the older generation). Change will. be another topic for another time! To grasp change humans need some basis of certainty – hence moving, divorce and new job being classed as amongst the highest stress situations.
Society is changing, greater ethnic diversity, tye job market is more fluid, the housing market onerous, food prices rising, war in Ukraine, climate change – there is a lot to insettle the population. The NatCons will appease these concerns by targeting the vulnerable and promiting prejudice. Appealing to the majority and victimising the minority is the fascism works. So statements like “I am not racist – but we have too many immigrants” are both racist and dangerous.
The Conservatives basically fucked the economy with AUSTERITY – and now the same people want to fuck society by imposing an austere society on us.
