New international trade secretary is accused of climate emergency denial after a series of tweets came to light in which she insisted the world was not getting hotter and dismissed global warming campaigners as “fanatics”. I am quite liberal and do not expect her to be arrested, but she should resign from public life forthwith.
COVID
The figures continue to confuse. London with a relatively low vaccination rate has low levels of infection (as do the major cities of the north), whilst the West gets hammered. Is it down to previous low rates of infection not giving us in the SW crowd immunity? Or was the spike due to the dodgy company putting out 45000 false negatives (will they be fined or have to repay some of the £220 million they have received from the tax payer – not bad for a company that did not exist 2 years ago!).
TAX
FOOTBALL
COOL
Cheaper sparkling wine and craft beer together with cheaper domestic flights. Just what the economy needs. I might have missed it, but no mention of climate change, green economy, poverty, food banks, zero hours working, fire and hire. Just loads of irrelevant figures (most of which were already designated).
Rachel Reeves did rather well though!
CROWDFARMING
A box of mangoes and lemons arrived today from Maria Marinez in Malaga. Fresh organic produce straight from the farmer. They get a decent price and it cuts out the middlemen and supermarkets – and makes me feel good too!
THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL
TORY MP SUSPENDED
Poor Mr Patterson was caught out for using his position unlawfully. But only 30 days, and how many more are using their position unethically. They are paid handsomely and can claim expenses so why do they need to receive gifts which include holidays and football match tickets. Patterson used hi parliamentary office 16 times for business meetings, not just the once by mistake or circumstance, but 16 times. He could now face a by-election if enough constituents vote for it.
WHAT DO YOU FEAR?
According to Knight Frank’s report the rich fear Covid first, on which I am sure we could all agree to have in the top 3 at least. Second one might think about Global Climate Change, crime, maybe other health issues. No the rich bastards fear a tax like Norways of 0.85% of assets over £130000. aaarr bless them, their meals in Londons swankiest restaurants at £200 per head plus might have to be reduced!
BUDGET
Am I wrong in thinking that the Budget was an exciting or frightening experience that happened when the chancellor opened a battered old case in the House of Commons? Now everything has been leaked, the spending bits are found to be just re-imaged versions of what already exists (much like Brexit Trade Deals).
