POLITICAL WILL

What is not stated is that politicians are capable of creating the climate for this so called political will. A reinstatement of the daily Covid briefings would go a long way to putting mask wearing and social distancing back in the publics consciousness, thus creating the climate for a Plan B which is looking ever more necessary. It is worth stating that less than half the population of the UK has been vaccinated and that the vaccine itself seems to be losing its potency fairly rapidly. (AstraZeneca down to 50% after 10 weeks, Pfizer to 70%).

Will the political will be there to roll out the necessary climate changes when the going gets tough (and expensive?). The roll out of electric cars seems reasonably smooth at present and when the government brings in road charging there could be a change in behaviour? I would suggest a sliding scale where short journeys incurnthe highest costs (99.9% of my journeys are short). This would encourage people to leave the car at home for short journeys and perhaps reduce the cost of the less frequent longer journeys.

The real test of political will will be when foods like meat become more expensive.
