REFLECTIONS

I will not add to the comments of those who obviously think they know better than Southgate, most of whom could not organise an empty box. Jonathan Pie

But what a sad state of affairs this country has become. The laser pen incident, the fans trying and succeeding in breaching security to get into the game, the fighting in the ground, booing the Danish National Anthem, and the huge amount of litter around Wembley and other fan venues. I am ashamed to be English at times. Then the reports of racial abuse on social media.

And yes I do blame the government for the racism and decline in standards in society. A Prime Minister who can’t seem to open his mouth without lying, who shows no morality in his personal life either, a government which has encouraged racism through comments about taking the knee (It is not a political movement as I cannot vote for it), by. the bus telling asylum seekers to go home, a government that condoned Cummings breaches of Covid regulations, and breaches on several ovations by the Prime Ministers father, who did not immediately sack Hancock for breaching his own Covid rules, a government which makes it easier to breach social beneficial restrictions like planing and employment laws. People are encouraged to be selfish. Covid laws have never been properly enforced, and people have got used to picking and choosing what is convenient for them. Bullies thrive in this atmosphere, vaccination centres have to employ security due to threats by people wanting a second jab (before entitles) to enable them to go on holiday and the odds on them isolating if necessary on return.

Yesterday I blogged about the effectiveness of the vaccine – perhaps I was looking at the wrong thing. Behaviour has become more lax with the lifting of restrictions. The government has passed responsibility for Covid restrictions onto individuals, despite the evidence that a significant proportion of people have no respect for others.

The social media platforms have allowed the racists and bigots freedom to air their putrid little views with seeming impunity. When did it become acceptable to drop 7 coins of litter on Weston-super-Mare Beach (as happened recently in just one day – the weight includes that from bins), to blight the contryside with take away boxes, cartoons, drinks?

These things have always gone on in my life time, but the difference recently is that people see their behaviour as acceptable, or at least as something which society in general is powerless to do anything about.
