REFUGEES

  1. Refugees will continue to flee conflict zones.
  2. We are no longer in the EU and therefore not part of any EU agreement on refugees – formerly there was a sort of agreement that refugees should seek haven in the first safe country they come to.
  3. France has no obligation, other than humanitarian, to stop refugees coming to the UK – I am surprised French fishermen are not ferrying them over!
  4. There is a basic premise in a liberal democracy that human rights should be observed. No good Samaritan here – a proposed Borders Bill would render those who help refugees liable to prosecution – Does this include the RNLI?
  5. International Conventions on Refugees must be observed, many of the governments proposals are not compatible.
  6. International refugees will increase with environmental disasters related to climate change. Government cuts to International Aid will increase these numbers.
