- Refugees will continue to flee conflict zones.
- We are no longer in the EU and therefore not part of any EU agreement on refugees – formerly there was a sort of agreement that refugees should seek haven in the first safe country they come to.
- France has no obligation, other than humanitarian, to stop refugees coming to the UK – I am surprised French fishermen are not ferrying them over!
- There is a basic premise in a liberal democracy that human rights should be observed. No good Samaritan here – a proposed Borders Bill would render those who help refugees liable to prosecution – Does this include the RNLI?
- International Conventions on Refugees must be observed, many of the governments proposals are not compatible.
- International refugees will increase with environmental disasters related to climate change. Government cuts to International Aid will increase these numbers.
