RIGHT FRIGHT

Whilst the article above is scary, it is also a bit like the local paper upping sales by printing a headline that jobs in the local factory are NOT under threat! The article also refers to children’s involvement in climate change discussions as bordering on child abuse – something their rich backers presumably know lots about!

The people behind this story are those who were behind Brexit and are totally anti-government involvement and low tax (apart from military spending and law and order). They claim not to be climate deniers but to believe that innovation will solve the problem. Unfortunately for them this concept has been around for half a century without coming to fruition. James Lovelock who, I believe conceived the Gaia philosophy much loved in the 1970’s of Mother Earth, stated that we should not waste money on climate change control mechanisms, but on dealing with the changes!

I guess the whole thing from their point of view is a “Project Fear’ exercise. Brexit was going to cause economic disaster the retainers claimed. It just so happens that this is becoming the case, but with enough distance from the referendum for the liars to claim other factors are the cause of our economic perils. The same will be true of climate change. It is incremental changes that are the big worry. Not the hurricane, flood or heatwave. These can all be dismissed as the ‘normal abnormal’.

I will try to comment on misinformation as it is generated by groups funded by fossil fuel companies who also fund MP’s and the government (and The BBC!).

A friend of mine – Andy Logan suggested that me driving less would make little difference on the move to a greener future. Martin has put me down when I have suggested that people action can work.

I cling to my belief in the power of the people as I am a child of the sixties (and seventies as I did not grow mentally for years). Many hands make light work its an old Chinese proverb. the fall in red meat consumption in the UK is not led by government or by taxes, but by health and environmental concerns. The burgeoning vegetarian and vegan movement is not driven by government (I am sure most Tories are horrified. Fox hunting was ‘sort of banned’ due to public pressure, and certainly not the nasty party.
