Perhaps this incompetence led the public to think the government was now doing fine after a very low bar was set last year. If your team was bottom of the league at Christmas and ends up 18th it can be seen as a success?

Basically sleaze will occur until we finally get proportional representation. It has not done Germany any harm. And perhaps then we could ridicule the likes of Trump, Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un, for their lack of popular support (rigid elections aside).
