STARMER

I will wait for the Mail and Torygraph and Express to vent their anger at the nanny state for the new initiatives to cut smoking. Apparently 10% of pregnant mothers smoke! Prevention is better than cure – and cheaper. I wonder if cigarette sales went online via registered sellers, and 200 minimum order, would cut the habit. I am an ex-smoker – clean for over 3 years now – but think I would bulk at having to shell out over a £100 per time! The government has banned the sale of packets of 10. It might help the crime rate – my local shop has been broken into a few times and the main objective seems to have been cigarettes! Would it put delivery drivers at risk? – probably not as there would be no guarantee that they had cigarettes. I think my local shop now sells more vapes than cigarettes – I will check this? Would it increase smuggling and gangs – possibly, but the money saved by the NHS should pay for better customs and policing?

Whilst on ideas! Local shops could be given a rate reduction if they provide local produce and cut prices of staples. This would encourage local shopping?
